Not only are Bird Droppings smelly and messy but they are another way of spreading disease. Noise and damage to property can be considerable.

Many birds carry variety of diseases which can be passed to humans. The Feral  Pigeon is nicknamed the ‘Fly Rat’ as it carries more diseases than the Mammal Rat.

Birds

Starlings in this country are mostly resident and their numbers are swollen in Winter by visitors from  Northeastern and Eastern Europe. These noisy gregarious birds can live in colonies of up to 100.000 individuals.

Although often beautiful these too can be a pest

These Pigeons are capable of breeding all year round but peak is March to August with with usually 2 eggs hatching. 9 broods can be raised in a year but 4 - 5 is more normal. Nests can be made from a variety of materials and in many places.

Herring Gulls are, unsurprisingly, costal. They are omnivorous scavengers that prefer to feed and roost in colonies. It is thought that Herring Gulls mate for life and can live for over 20 years.

How can we control these birds?

Prevent them from landing on roofs and window ledges by installing nets and spike systems. They can also be scared away or live trapped. Birds of prey can also be used to scare birds away.
